In many places, cities and countries, governments are easing lockdown measures – New Zealand has been the first to advise a complete eradication of Covdi19 cases. In other places, some are still waiting for their peak and are self-isolating where possible.
This leads to us to our next Covid19 submission by Sankari Balasubramanian.
From the capital Chennai of Tamilnadu, India, Sankari tells us how 2020 has been a whirlwind up until now. She has had a complete lifestyle change, twice, within the space of 6 months because of the pandemic.
Here is Sankari’s post:
“I live in Chennai, from Tamilnadu, India. Chennai is a city that has only 3 climates – hot, hotter and hottest. Chennai is the gateway to the rich cultural heritage of South India and is one of the 4 major metropolitan cities in India”.
“I used to be a stay-at-home mom until Jan this year.
I quit my job when my older one was 3 to spend time with him. He is 12 now and my little one is 7. I decided this is a good time to restart my career and joined as a Social Media Analyst at Digital SEO”.
Chennai, Covid19, and a pause for thought:
“Now, the pandemic has added one more glory to its credit. With the number of cases increasing every day, the city is yet to see the peak and the future has never looked so uncertain.
I have learned to be grateful for all the little things in life – to see the sun from the balcony, to hear the squirrels in the backyard, to see the clouds moving and to see the stars from the terrace in the night.
In the previous life, I never stopped to notice these things. I was always running between schedules to keep, groceries to buy, meals to make and movies to watch.
This pandemic has taught me to slow down and live in the moment, be mindful of things around me and be thankful”.
Personal Realisations and trying something new:
“My recent inspiration came from my team at work. Being an introvert and a stay-at-home mom, my entire world was revolving around my kids. My teammates showed me that there is more to life than this. Going back to work is one of the best decisions I ever made. The expansion of my world has given me new perspectives and I am regaining my self-confidence.
I always wanted to start writing a blog but never had the courage. This is my first step and I finally found the strength to write. I am hoping to continue this”.
We asked Sankari three things she was thankful for:
My husband, the modern gentleman, who always supports me and nudges me to be a better person than what I was yesterday. My kids, who love me unconditionally and look to me for advice even though I don’t think I am the right person to give advice.
My parents, my sister and my in-laws who shaped me all these years and showed me the right way.
My job and my colleagues who give me the opportunity to be someone other than just a mom and a wife.
“The feeling that I have the power to make an impact on someone else’s life through my job is something that keeps me going these days”.
